Demon By My Side was such a great read, I was drawn in from the very beginning and didn't want the story to end when it was over. There was so much story packed into this book that it was easy to devour it in a day and never get bored. I haven't yet read the first book in the Netherworld series, Seducing the Demon Huntress, but I sure will now. Don't worry if you don't want to start there because you could easily read this book without being lost since the author does a great job of explaining what has happened before as you're reading this one.
Darcy Snow is a demon hunter and a damn good one at that. She's never hesitated when faced with monsters preying on humans, but the rules changed when the Lord of the Spirits married a mortal. While spirits used to be able to cross into the human realm only on Halloween, they're now passing freely through a mysterious portal.
Jaral is a demon with a mission. As the heir apparent in the demon realm, he's been waiting for a chance to finally prove himself to his father. When he's ordered to solve the mystery of how their enemies are infiltrating the human world, he expects to run up against mortals. One thing he didn't plan on, however, is crossing paths with a beautiful demon hunter.
Together, they'll need to seal the portal and ensure that balance is returned to the realm. But loving an enemy is not an option for Darcy. If she can't trust Jaral, she can't be with him. To prove his intentions, Jaral will need to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Darcy Snow is a demon hunter charged with taking out the demons who enter the human realm, and recently found out ghosts are entering using a portal that shouldn't exist. Jaral is a demon prince who has came across with orders from his father to find the portal. Normally he'd kill any hunter he came across but for some reason Darcy is different, as you'll come to find out.
While their goals are the same, they are definitely on different sides, but they end up working together. I love that they go from enemies to lovers, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. As can be expected with them on different sides there are a lot of trust issues between them and I honestly didn't know how the author would reconcile them until the very end.
Although the book isn't really all that long the author did an excellent job of making it not feel too rushed. There was plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom, hot romance and enough paranormal baddies to keep me entertained throughout and I can't wait to read more from Victoria Davies!
