Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?
I loved reading The Giver by Lois Lowry! I had already read it on my own and loved it, but reread it with the rest of class. It was simply a great story, and at the time I had never read anything even remotely like it.
I've never read this book. I will have to look it up.

Yay I totally chose The Giver too! It's one of the few books that really got me thinking in school and had me imagining the possibilities. I just felt like I had to ponder it, if you know what I mean.

I read another novel of Lowry's, Number the Stars, in 5th grade, but never had to read this one.

Somehow I missed reading this one. We had it as a literature group one week and I think I ended up with our other choice. :) Lots of folk like this one!

Somehow, I've never read any of Lois Lowry's books. I remember her Anastasia series from when I was a kid. I've heard a lot about The Giver and need to add it to my TBR list.
