Interview with Author Frankie Rose:
1. What made you want to be an author and how long have you wanted to be one?
I've always loved writing since an incredibly early age. I wrote lots of poetry at first, and I still write a lot now. I fell in love with poetry because of how it made me feel. I didn't consciously realize that words were such powerful things until I was much older, but I knew that reading poems made me experience such a deep and wonderful array of emotions. It made me think about things I'd never thought about before, and it made me curious about subjects I probably never would have even considered in my daily life. I wanted to be able to illicit that response in others, too.
That was the pleasure in novel writing for me as well. I love burying myself in a world I am creating, and I love helping readers become someone else, someone entirely different to who they might be in every other single moment of their lives. Because when you sit down and lose yourself in a book, you're no longer you. You're an Egyptian King, or a Victorian prostitute, or a love struck teenager with super powers!!
2. Who is your favorite author(s)?
I end up saying someone different every time I answer this question. I can't help it- I just change my mind depending on what I've been reading, y'know? Today, my favourite author is George R. R Martin.
3. What is your favorite book(s)?
Again, this is the same deal. I change my mind so often. I read The Curse Worker series by Holly Black recently, and I loved Cassel Sharpe. They're probably my favourite today.
4. Who is your favorite fictional character?
Ha ha... My favourite fictional character is John Snow from George R. R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. He is ultimately pretty badass, incredibly intelligent, a little wounded, which always helps, not to mention very good looking (at least in my head. And Kit Harington, who plays him in the Game of Thrones television series isn't too hard on the eyes, either.)
5. What genre books do you usually read, just curious if it's in the same genre you write?
I read a bit of an eclectic mix, to be honest. I do read an awful lot of young adult books, because they're awesome, but also so I can stay current in the genre and make sure I'm not doing anything that's been done before. Other than that, I like to read a lot of sci fi, especially by Iain M Banks, and I love contemporary literary fiction, as well as the classics. I re-read Dickens when I want to treat myself. There's something so decadent about his writing, and I love it. If I could get away with writing like that now, I would. It would probably only confuse people, though.
6. Who is your favorite character from Sovereign Hope?
I hate telling people my favourite character from Sovereign Hope is Daniel, but unfortunately it's true. It's not because he's hot and I liked writing the romance between him and Farley, even though that was fun. It's because of who he is. He's a pretty complex character- a lot of really horrible things have happened to him in the past, which still affect who he is today. You see some of that in Sovereign Hope, but Eternal Hope reveals a lot more about Daniel, who he is and what's happened to him. It also reveals a lot about his relationships with the other characters, especially Kayden.
7. What do you do in your free time, when you're not writing?
I usually spend a lot of time exploring and bush walking in Australia around where I live. I like to fiddle around and make book trailers. I read a heck of a lot; I practically live in the library when I'm not at home. I'm obsessed with photography, too, and I teach myself new techniques and like to challenge myself with the things I want to accomplish with my photography.
8. Anything else you'd like your readers to know about you?
I am currently on a mission to find the perfect guy to be on the cover of Eternal Hope. I am desperate to release the second book in the series, because I loved writing it so much, but I can't do that without outside help. I need to know who the readers think looks like Daniel. I want to share this book with them, and it would be amazing to have someone on the cover who fits everyone's ideal of the perfect Daniel. Great interview! Thanks for sharing.
